The story of Janneke van Heeswijk
Born in Tilburg, 20 october 1978, She started playing the flute at the age of 6. Soon other instruments became of great interest to her too; the piano, the guitar, singing and last but not least:the DRUMS.
When she turned 19, she took drumlessons and after three months of daily practising she decided to study drums at the conservatorium in Tilburg. After 4,5 years of a successful study at the Conservatorium of Music in Tilburg, and playing in numerous bands in bars, theatres, festivals, pop-temples and working as a teacher, she packed her bags and went to Australia to travel and study popular music at Griffith University.
Back in Holland she toured for 1,5 years with Frank Groothof and performed in 60 theatres in Holland and Belgium.
Meanwhile she started a Beatles tribute band, named Mal Evans Memorial Band and played numerous gigs in Holland and at international festivals. The band received the Golden Apple Award from the Dutch Beatle fan club 'Beatles Unlimited'. After releasing a successful album of Beatles songs in Dutch in early 2007 they received national TV and radio exposure, plus a full agenda of gigs.
In 2006 she picked up a study sociology at Tilburg University for a year. After that she started recording her own popsongs and works as a musician; from Beatles tribute to worldmusic, from folk to classical, from coverbands to composing her own original music. In 2011 she signed a record deal at Roughtrade and her debut album Grietje 'Across Borders' is available in musicstores and on the internet;iTunes and Bol.com.
